Sept 11th/12th Race

Bracket Nationals Postponed Till Sept 11/12th

Rain and Un-seasonally cold weather is forecast for the Calgary area this weekend. The CDRA executive have decided to postpone our August 28th/29th race to the next available date, Sept 11th/12th. With the high probability of Rain and daytime highs barely out of the single digits, track prep and driver safety are a serious concern. We hope to see you in September.

Sponsors needed for top end paving.

Paving at Race City Drag Strip

Race City will be paving the drag strip shortly.  The paving to 1/8 mile will be paid for by Race City.  The track is good beyond 1000 feet.  An additional $17,000 is needed to repave to 1000 feet.  This will be done by selling signage and through other sponsorship.  All funds raised will go directly to repaving the track.  If anyone knows of a person, group or business that would be willing to help out, let the CDRA or Race City staff know this and they will be contacted with the details.  This is an opportunity to better the facility and improve racing for the next 2 seasons and perhaps beyond.

Thanks.

Information for this season.

Hello All, and welcome to another year of racing with the Calgary Drag Racing Association!!

In case some of you haven’t heard, Art Mackenzie has signed a 2-year extension with the City of Calgary.

As well, Race City is now officially sanctioned by the AHRA.

This year AHRA will be hosting 3 races here in Calgary.

The first race goes on June 18, 19, and 20th.

This is part of their Reunion tour and continues Race City’s Fathers Day Funny Car Tradition. We are sure some of you remember the heyday of the AHRA!

Come to our next general meeting on April 19th to find out more.

It’s still at the same place, the Laugh Shop at the Blackfoot Inn at 7:30PM.

One of AHRAs stipulations is you HAVE to be a member to race at one of their events.

A big plus if you renew your CDRA Membership before April 30th is you get a free membership with the AHRA, which costs $65.00.

As well, you get reduced racing fees at all CDRA events, a chance for a trophy at the end of the year, ALL that prize money and a nifty sticker for your car too!

The AHRA events will cost $150 for the weekend, $125 if you preregister, and they feature large purses, even money for the juniors.

An added benefit of registering ahead of time is early pit entrance privileges, and likely a better pit area.

Thanks to all of you who have helped out in the past

We are looking for volunteers, for this year.

We need:

Gate/Admission staff

Track prep

Water box

Starting line

Staging, etc.

If you get knocked out early, don’t go home, pitch in and help. Working the water box is the best seat in the house. Just be sure to let a few others in on the fun.

See you all at the meeting!!

2010 CDRA Racing Schedule

CDRA 2010 Racing Schedule (Revised):

  • May 29, 30: CDRA Bracket Race, NHRDA
  • Jun 5: CDRA Bracket Race, Sat Evening
  • Jun 19, 20: AHRA Reunion Tour, Fathers Day
  • Jul 3: CDRA Bracket Race, Sat Evening
  • Jul 24: CDRA Bracket Race, Sat Evening
  • Aug 7: CDRA Bracket Race, Sat Evening
  • Aug 28, 29: AHRA Sportsman, Bracket Race
  • Sept 11, 12: AHRA Sportsman, Bracket Race

The reason the schedule had to be revised was that Race City lost communication with each other and double booked the weekend. As usual we end up with having to move our events.

Volunteers for CDRA Exhibit at World of Wheels

Thankyou volunteers for all the help at the World of Wheels.

This also came from Rick Francescone:

Once again another World of Wheels has concluded. I wanted to thank all those groups that participated in our display. Especially all our children/young adults. I wanted to specially thank a few individuals for their help, whom with out, none of this would have been possible. I am the person usually getting all the credit and yet it is because of all the help I receive behind the scenes that allows us to pull off these events.
First off Joyce Brown from the World of Wheels whom allowed us to present our message and made a lot of concessions to help us out. Thanks so much Joyce.
Mel Loewen whom arranged all the banners, tent, and pretty much everything you saw, as well as our association with Cardel Homes. Mel I know at times you were pulling your hair out (and perhaps wanted to pull mine out) but I am eternally grateful for you perseverance. Thanks.
The CMRA and the CDRA for their donations of door prizes.
The clubs that kicked in money to help pay for things, (still waiting on some of you) and all those people that did the little things to help us get our message across, you know who you are.
The volunteers that manned the booth, thanks. This was the first Sunday night after the show that I still had a voice.
I think the concept was well received by those in attendance and the parents that I talked to understood the injustice that the motorsport community is being served.
Thanks so much for your support.
